Task 4

Task 3

a) I am going to be connecting and setting up a computer system
This is the computer I had to set up, as you can see it does not work because it is not connected.

First I connected the mouse and keyboard through the USB slots and the back of the computer case.

Then I connected the monitor connector in the monitor port which is located in the back of the computer case.
Once I did that I then connected the Ethernet cable in the back of the computer case.
I then connected the power cable, which is located in the back of computer case.


Once I had done that I then turned the switch on and the computer turned on, as you can see from the image below the computer successfully turned on.

b) First go to the Open Office website and download the full version, wait for the file to complete its download

Once it has downloaded open the file, once you have done that the following window will appear then select next
Now select the destination of the folder by clicking browse, and then select unpack, when you have done that the file unpacking will start wait for it to finish unpacking
Next the installation will start, simply select next, in the following window you will require to put in your username and chose if you want to install Open Office for all the users on the computer or just for one
Now you must decide what kind of setup type you want, you can chose between typical and custom, once you have selected the setup type then click next
In the following window select install to install the program
Now wait for the program to install, this may take a couple of minutes, once it has completed then select finish
The program has now been successfully installed

Task 4

I am going to be undertaking routine maintenance tasks on a standalone computer systems.

a) Organisation and Naming of files

First locate the student drive and open it




 Create a new folder by right clicking and selecting the new folder option




Rename the folder




Go on your flash drive and select the data you want to transfer and select copy


Go back to your student drive and paste the data on to the new folder you have created


b) Back-up Procedure: Online

To back up your work on Sky Drive you will first have to select the upload option on the top left of your screen.


Now select files you want to upload and then click select



Once you have done that the files will be uploaded on your Sky Drive account.




c) Backup Media
To back up your coursework on a pen drive first right click the "Level 3 work" folder and select copy


 Then go to your pen drive and right click and select paste. 


The work should now be copied on your pen drive.


g) Deleting Temporary Files
First select disk clean up when you click the start button


When you have done that then tick the rycling bin, temporary internet files and temporary files boxes from the primary "c" then click the OK button.



d) (i) First you have to download CCleaner from http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner, 


When you have downloaded CCleaner the following window will open, then select next

Now select any additional options you want then click install
Wait for the program to install
When the installing has been completed click on finish
 As you can see from the image below CCleaner has successfully been installed

d) (ii) To schedule CCleaner to delete your internet cache and cookies daily you have to first open up CCleaner and check all the options in the internet explorer section is ticked

Then open up Task Scheduler and select create basic task
 Once you have done that the following window will open, type in the name you'd like the task to be identified as (for example CCleaner) then select next

Now its time to select how often you would like CCleaner to run so in this case select daily and click next
Select the date and time you want the first clean to be performed and select how often you want CCleaner to recur which is every one day at 9am and then click next

Now select the start a program option and click next
In the next step you have to select the program which is CCleaner, click browse and chose CCleaner and select open and click next

Now select finish to complete this task

e) Archiving
Right click on the folder and select send to and click "compressed (zipped) folder"


Once you have done that then it will make a zipped copy



f) Defragmentation
First select disk defragmenter in the start menu

Once you have done that then a window will open up

Then select the defragment disk option, this will perform defragmentation on the primary "c:" partition on your computer system,


h) (i) Cleaning hardware

 (ii) Replace Consumables
At first there was no paper in the printer as the photo below shows



Then I placed some print paper in the tray
 There was also no ink in the printer

As the photo below shows I placed the ink cartridge in the printer
